This project has been created for businesses in Teesdale and Wear Valley who are interested in energy efficiency, cost savings, alternative and renewable energy sources, reducing carbon footprint and helping create practical incentive schemes to support eco-investment.
Which ever stage you are at, be it starting out or already adopting new alternatives, we are keen to hear from you.
We will be running workshops and training courses, offering advice and useful information, toolkits for self auditing and practical ways of saving money.
In partnership with The Centre for the Rural Economy, Newcastle University, we are also undertaking an evaluation study on your views and aspirations regarding renewable energy.
This study will identify barriers for using renewable energy, opportunities for new enterprises in the supply chain which it brings and ways in which business support related to these activities might be made more effective.
This programme is funded by Natural England via West Durham Rural Pathfinder.

Green Tourism Business Scheme - AONB Partnership
The AONB Partnership Staff Unit is organising two Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) seminars for tourism businesses in the North Pennines AONB & European Geopark - 10 October 2007 in Mickleton and 11 October 2007 in St. John's Chapel.
More and more visitors are booking with businesses that take a green approach to products and services. To help businesses tap into this lucrative market whilst making substantial cost savings, the Green Tourism Business Scheme provides an environmental accreditation that can be used to increase the marketing potential of tourism businesses. The accreditation scheme equips businesses with the knowledge and expertise to make their operations more sustainable by reducing energy usage and bills as well as providing a marketing bonus. Energy Efficiency Loans (interest free)
Energy-Efficiency Loans from the Carbon Trust are a cost effective way to replace or upgrade your existing equipment with a more energy efficient version. Being more energy efficient makes sound economic sense because using less energy lowers operating costs. From an environmental perspective, it's an effective way for business to cut carbon emissions and, in turn, combat climate change. Small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in England and Scotland, or all businesses in Wales that have been trading for at least 12 months, could borrow from £5,000 to £100,000. It is unsecured, interest free and repayable over a period of up to 4 years. There are no arrangement fees and applying is straightforward.
