I was born in the North East in a typical working class village on the outskirts of Durham, the middle daughter of a hard working, loving family.
Having left school with mediocre qualifications I attended Durham Technical College and achieved good results in Business Studies, Accounts and Secretarial skills.
I started my career at The Northern Echo in Darlington working in the newsroom and progressed to Secretary to the Editor D.J. Evans.
After a career break to raise my own 3 children Mark, Martin and Victoria I started working at Black & Decker in Spennymoor twilight shift on the Power Tool lines, which was hard work but I loved every minute of it. I volunteered to take the minutes of our TCS (Total Customer Service) meeting and once they realised that I did shorthand and could type I was moved into an Administration Role.
Me being Me and always having to prove myself 'being the middle child' I didn't stay long in Administration, I enrolled at college to study for my CIPS which I successfully completed and my final role within Black and Decker after 6 years was as the only women in a Mans World in Purchasing.
I left to start my own franchised business Thrifty Car Rental and again was the only women franchisee working in a Mans World but did that stop me 'NO' I won several National Awards within Thrifty Car Rental for Best Newcomer, Best Customer Service, Best Sales & Marketing, Licensee of the Year Gold Award, BVRLA Training Award and Barclays Bank TEC Best Start Up Award.
After 12 years of running my own business I decided I needed a new challenge and decided to use the knowledge that I had gained from running my own business into helping new entrepreneurs turn their dreams into reality and finally ended here at The Enterprise Agency in Wear Valley working for Shaun Stuart and the rest of the team.
I thoroughly enjoy my work with The Agency which is wide and varied and enjoy all the new challenges that are thrown my way.
Maybe I have found my finally resting place!!!
